FAQs

The information provided below should answer some of the questions that you have about Garforth Shukokai Karate Club. If the details you need are not included, please contact Sensei Paul.

Age group

Karate is a sport that appeals to both sexes, children can start from the age of 6 and there is no maximum age limit.

How do I get started?

Contact Sensei Paul via our web site or give him a call, he will give you all the information you require. You are also more than welcome to come down and observe one of our training sessions and have a word with Sensei afterwards.
First lesson is FREE!

Most people are not sure what to expect when starting Karate. Therefore we give each student a free introductory lesson just to get a feel for karate. Each lesson is tailored towards the level of the individual student and this continues throughout their development in the martial art.

What do I wear?

At first all you need is loose clothing, if you enjoy karate and decide to continue then you will need a Karate suit (Gi). Karate suits are available from Sensei.

Costs involved

Compared with other activities and pastimes, karate is relatively cheap.

  • Membership is FREE therefore there are no annual fees to pay.

The first lesson is FREE to give you the opportunity to see what the club is like and the students who train there. The instructor will explain the current lesson and licence costs during your first visit.

Licences

Garforth Shukokai Karate Club is a registered member club of the Cobra Martial Arts Association (C.M.A.A. – see web site from our links page) who provide our licences.

  • If you want to continue with karate, you will need a licence. A licence provides you with the insurance to train and is also a record of all your grading qualifications and courses attended.
