Gradings

*We take students from 6 years of age onwards. However a child's development varies at such a young age, therefore if I feel the training is too much for them to take on board I reserve the right to defer their training to a time when they are capable of understanding what is asked of them.*

The grades needed to achieve Black belt are:
8th Kyu – Yellow belt
7thKyu – Orange belt
6th Kyu – Green belt
5th Kyu – Blue belt
4th Kyu – Purple belt
3rd Kyu – Brown belt 1 tab
2nd Kyu – Brown belt 2 tab
1st Kyu – Brown belt 3 tab
1st Dan – Black belt

Dan grades are in yearly intervals for example;
1st Dan to 2nd Dan – minimum 2 years
2nd Dan to 3rd Dan – minimum 3 years

Grading is every 3 months until the student reaches 4th Kyu, then every 6 months until 1st Kyu.

The experience needed is a minimum of 20 lessons between each grading up to 4th Kyu, then a minimum of 40 lessons between each grading from 4th Kyu to 1st Kyu.

Students under 16 years old must wait 12 months to grade from 1st Kyu to Black belt 1st Dan, over 16 years can grade after 6 months.

Costs and Licences

Club membership is free therefore there is no annual membership to pay.

Discounts are available for families training together, these discounts start from any two family members training together.

Private lessons are also available.

Garforth Shukokai Karate Club is a registered member of the Cobra Martial Arts Association C.M.A.A and as such each student must have a licence from the C.M.A.A. This licence is a record of all your grading exams and also your insurance to train.

Unlike other karate clubs there is no annual club membership, however your monthly subscriptions now act like a gym membership you pay monthly whether you go to the gym or not, the same applies with regards to karate training. However any lessons a student has missed can be made up at the other club without any further charge.
